Developing effective catalysts for the conversion of solar energy to molecular hydrogen by the water splitting reaction is one of the great challenges faced by science today. We contribute to this field through the characterization of heterogeneous materials having a potential application in the field, as well as through the rationalization of the mechanisms of the hydrogen and the oxygen evolution reactions.
